The sandwich Run
Is a ministries of Project417 that is a first contact piont with people who are street involved, it is and opportunity to build bridges from the faith community to the street community.
The sandwich run is an opportunity to be involved in meeting people who call the street home. During the evening we meet to deliver between 80 to 100 bag lunches. The evening begans usually around 7:00pm and finished around 10:00pm.
Most sandwich runs begin in the Harbour Street and Spadina area and conclude in the Dundas Street and Victoria Street.
The Sandwich Run involves walking for a couple of hours, so we ask the you dress according to the weather. Please wear weather appropiate foot wear.
The bag lunches contain:
One sandwich made is peanut butter and jam or bologna and process cheese. This important becasue we need the sandwich to last for a few hours without refrigation. Please do not put butter, marg, mayo, mustard, relish, lettuce, tomato, etc.
Bread, white or whole wheat
One fruit drink box. Please no glass or carbonated drinks
One apple, Maccintosh or similar soft fleshed apple.
One Snack item Cookies or Granola bar.
For many years, Project417 has resisted the need to collect a fee for the operation of the Sandwich runs. Due to on going and increasing operating expenses of this critical ministry, combined with a sharp decrease in charitable donations to Project417-Ekklesia Innner-city Ministries, this is a necessary step to ensure the survival of the sandwich runs.
With your help, Project417 will continue to provide your groups with an effective and rewarding ministry experience. You all know that a sandwich run is more than delivering food to the street involved people. It is a relational outreach during which meaningful commnication can take place and bridges of trust built to reach the people on the street. The collection of $10 per person fee will help contribute to the following services:
Experience Project417 team leaders
Group Safety, and Orientation and bebrief session.
Team development, administration costs, office and other costs.
Vehicle and travel expenses.
